"Lake Hāwea Station occupies a charmed place in the world, and we couldn’t be more grateful to have spent a bit of time there. From the moment we arrived, Annie made us feel right at home. We learned about the mission of the Station, its relationship with the land, and its history. Mitch took us on a beautiful tour of the farm — we were able to meet some of the animals, see the sunflower field, and we even spotted a group of stags on the mountainside. Thanks, Mitch!! The Packhorse Cottage was perfectly provisioned and incredibly comfortable & well-appointed. We loved the history of the cottage. In sum: Lake Hāwea station is a slice of heaven! “I don't know what else to say about this place but wow. One of the best lodgings we've ever stayed in. The property is gorgeous, and from the moment you drive up you feel how relaxed and calm it is. Our cabin was utterly perfect, and everything was so comfortable and cozy that we never wanted to leave. But by far the best part, as so many others have said, is the team working there--Annie gave us incredible tips, even after we left, and made us feel like part of the family. I wish we could have stayed for a month, and we'll definitely be back next time we have the chance.”
